Among our clients are some 300 Scandinavian publishing houses, ranging from one man shops to the biggest players in the industry.
Publit changes the rules of publishing by radically lower the start cost for production and distribution of books. We adapt to the needs and working methods of conventional publishing houses, at the same time as we make it possible for people who up til now lacked funds or knowledge to effortlessly publish and sell books. A book published via Publit is available at the same outlets as conventional books but is not printed and distributed until it’s ordered. To the end customer a book from Publit is indistinguishable from a traditional book.
It might seem simple, yet before Publit there wasn’t a single publisher in Scandinavia with a print on demand workflow.
• Scanning and digitizing
• Conversion to epub files
• Production of printed books
• Distribution of printed books and e-books
• Administration of sold books
Even if print on demand is where it all began (back in 2008) we soon started working with ebooks too. Thanks to a series of grants from government agencies funding industrial research we were able to get really good at understanding how to produce and distribute ebooks. We also build what we think is the worlds finest infrastructure for selling both physical and electronic books directly to the end customer.
Our business model is simple: physical books have a base price that is more or less the same for all books as long as they’re black and white (between 100 and 750 pages, regardless of format, the base price is 69 kronor). The publisher adds the desired profit on top of the base price and gets the retail list price. This means that the publisher will never have to tie up capital; the end customer carries all costs of the book.
In the case of ebooks the publisher puts a price for each distribution channel. We currently distribute books via Elib, Overdrive and Kobo.
Publit is currently only available in swedish, but if you want to know more about the company, please feel free to contact us.
